Turkana Land is inspired by Alexandra’s experience of working with an aid agency in Turkana, Kenya. The novel chronicles the events surrounding the most devastating famine of the last century.

The Turkana, a warrior tribe that has resisted invasion and colonialism, are at the brink of extinction. Their parched landscape hosts a people shattered by starvation.

This is the story of the unlikely friendship between Alice, an aid worker, and Amejen, her Turkana translator, as they struggle to find water for the nomads of the desert.
